It's commonly said that life is lived like the chapters of a book. To progress in our story, we must learn to overcome the problems we face in the current chapter of our lives. While it seems overly simple to understand, I find the most valuable pieces of wisdom are. Recently, as I'm feeling more stressed, I've been reminding myself to view my life from this perspective more often. Here's why.

It's a way of relating to my life that reminds me that the breakthroughs I'm looking for won't happen gradually by doing the same things, but through periods of growth after I change something within myself and my approach. It makes me hopeful because it means, that once I make the changes, better results will not be too far on the other side. Life is a patient teacher. It teaches the same lessons until they're learned, and I see it as my responsibility as a student to discover what they are.

Another reason I take on this perspective is it helps me embrace this stage of my journey. In the next chapter of my life, much like this chapter, I will encounter new problems that will demand just as much from me as the problems I have today. The perspective reminds me my journey is not about walking an easier path, but continuing to build a skillset and develop a character that makes it easier to navigate more challenging paths in the future that make my life more fun, interesting, and rewarding.

Lastly, it reminds me that the quality of my life is determined by my relationship with it, not by the circumstances or emotions I experience. Like the relationships I share with the people closest to me, there are times when I feel angry, disappointed, and embarrassed with my circumstances. However, it doesn't make me love my life any less. No matter what, I know life will always be here for me with empty pages, and reminding myself I'm the author helps me be here for life, writing the next events that continue the story I want to write.

If you have moments when you feel like you're stuck fighting with your life, take a few seconds to pause and reflect on your perspective towards your life. Your perspective of life will change how you relate to your life, shifting the emotions you feel, the actions you take, and the results you create. In your meditation, realize there are no goals other than the ones you imagine, and in its pursuit, there will always be more to become, more to accomplish, and more to obtain. Bring your focus back to the reality of things. What perspective are you holding of your life?
